SMASHING PUMPKINS Will Never Play Full Albums Live, Says BILLY CORGAN

According to The Pulse Of Radio, SMASHING PUMPKINS mainman Billy Corgan says that the band will never follow the popular trend of the last few years and play albums in full during concerts. Speaking with Rolling Stone, Corgan said, "The idea of getting up and playing an album that was never meant to be played live in that sequence smacks of consumerism. That stuff is the dregs of the music business. I have a hard time believing that everybody out there doing it really wants to do it."

Corgan added that he feels the trend of playing albums from front to back live is played out and bands are starting to do it less.

He also said that he understands the love fans have for certain older titles from the PUMPKINS catalog like "Siamese Dream", explaining, "I'm proud to have made such an album that's important. The millennials love 'Siamese Dream'… Great! But I'm not gonna go out there and hack around just to reclaim some light that I don't feel has gone out. The light is still in my eyes. I'm still more than capable of producing new work."

Corgan has said for years that he did not want the PUMPKINS to be a nostalgia act. "To go back under the SMASHING PUMPKINS name engendered a lot of people expecting us to be nothing more than a reunion band, playing its greatest hits, and with a fan base not particularly keen to listen to the new music," he said. "What I try to tell people that get caught up in the reunion kind of concepts — like where are the original members and stuff like this — the band was founded on an idea that it must be progressive and it must always be moving forward."

The PUMPKINS will kick off their 2016 "In Plainsong" tour on March 22 in Portland, Oregon, ending a little under a month later on April 20 in Houston.

The tour, on which the band plays stripped-down versions of its songs, will feature founding drummer Jimmy Chamberlin behind the kit for the second time in less than a year. Chamberlin also played on a summer co-headlining run with MARILYN MANSON in 2015.

Following the end of the tour, the SMASHING PUMPKINS will head back to the studio to record the follow-up to 2014's "Monuments To An Elegy".
